In Search Of The Perfect Ice Cube Tray

Years ago I bought these ice cube trays:
But I busted 4 of them before I decided that these weren't the best ice cube tray. While at a friend's house, Tai noticed their ice cube tray. He thought theirs would be a good ice cube tray for us:

But when I bought that one, I saw these:
The perfect ice cube tray. They are silicone so the cubes pop right out. It says the cubes are supposed to come out in perfect cubes but I think that depends on how you fill it and if you have a level place to put it. They really are the perfect ice cube tray.

  1. I hate to say it, but they aren't. I just pitched out two of them. They are flexible which means you need to be extra careful on the trip from the sink to the freezer lest you dump a lot of water on the kitchen floor. :( Also, because the things are flexible, the water expands in several directions as it freezes, not just up like a regular ice cube tray. The cubes can be a bit tricky to get out. I thought they smelled funny too, but that may just be me.

  2. I got some long skinny ones from IKEA that make ice to fit in water bottles and I found the same thing...trip from sink to freezer was a mess...got a fridge with an ice maker and it is not an issue anymore.

  3. I threw ours out because everyone would use them up and then leave them empty on the counter for Mom to refill!!
