Snow & A Favorite From The Past

We had a little bit of snow here. I wish I would have taken pictures in the morning but I had to hustle to the bus.

 I wanted to make some comfort food for dinner. I made fajitas and Mexican Rice.

I spied a Mexican Rice recipe on Heather's Dish. It seemed a lot like the rice my mom used to make. Since she didn't leave me a recipe, I figured I would try Heather's recipe. I tweaked a bit to make it more like my mom's. I substituted a can (15 oz) of diced tomatoes and only used 3 cups of stock. It came out exactly like Mom used to make. I'll be making this one again.

First day of Summer and it's 60 degrees. I'm wearing a turtleneck and eat soup. I want summer and I want it now!

Spring Has Sprung

It was sunny and 70 on Monday. I took these near my work. So glad to see the sun and warm weather!

Breaking News

We've been having some flooding in our neck of the woods. Where we live is fine, no flooding. But the town we got married in? Completely flooded. Remember the barn we got married at?It looks like this right now:This picture was sent to me by a friend who's sister lives nearby. I'm not sure if her sister took the picture or what. Pretty scary!
We have some other friends that live out there too. All them are ok, just stranded in their homes. First the snow, now the rain!

Need More Winter Clothes

The storm last month showed me that I have no good winter clothes. I managed for a day or two but I could not last an entire month with temperatures in the teens with what I've got. Now, it was colder here longer than it's been since I've been around. I imagine this might happen again so I'm the lookout for good winter clothes.

If I buy two things, I need long underwear (I thought I could leave those in Ohio) and good snow/winter boots. I wore my Keens most of the time and they did not cut it. I was certainly slip sliding. I did go out and look for those ice grippy things but no one had them. Grr.
I'm certainly not ready for the snow to come back. I hope we don't see it for a while here or that I at least am more prepared for it.

Warning: I seem to a be a gloomy gus about the holidays this year. Sorry! Feel free to ignore me!

Unless the weather breaks we'll be spending Christmas at home. We usually go to our friend's house for Christmas but if the weather stays bad we'll be at home, eating pizza:) It's a sad Christmas because we didn't buy any gifts. We were supposed to go last weekend but nope the weather was terrible. We'll be hitting the after Christmas sales to buy our gifts to each other. It's ok since we'll be together, celebrating our first married Christmas.
But I hope you all have wonderful holidays. I'm going to take a long weekend off from blogging perhaps I'll have some fun things to talk about next week.

Snowy Days

It's been snowing here for days. It doesn't normally snow that much here which is why I like it. Work's been canceled for the past few days so free holiday but I can't leave the house! I'm not one of those drive in the snow people and I don't have chains on my car. I saw today that our neighborhood is pretty snowy and icy but the streets below are pretty clear so if I had to drive I would just have to navigate our neighborhood.
But I did venture out yesterday and took some lovely pictures of the beautiful snow.This is the corner by our apartment. So is this. I just love how winter wonderland it looks there.
The guys from the Indian buffet near our house were hard at work on this snowman. They graciously let me snap a picture!
On my walk I wound up under these trees and caught this picture. Tai didn't think it looked real.
So we'll be stuck at home for the next few days. The weather doesn't seem to be warming up so we'll be here, where it's warm and safe!
