Foodies Read 2 Challenge

The second challenge for 2012 is the Foodies Read 2 challenge. I think this one might be easy for me since I love books about food. I'm going for the Sous Chef level (9-13 books). I don't need to make a list but I wanted to anyway.

The Recipe Club by Andrea Israel and Nancy Garfinkle
Julie and Julia by Julie Powell
The Food of A Younger Land by Mark Kurlansky
The Fortune Cookie Chronicles by Jennifer Lee
Plenty by Alisa Smith
The Zen of Fish by Trevor Corson
Confections of A Closet Master Baker by Gesine Bullock-Prado
As Always, Julia by Julia Childs
Salted by Mark Bitterman
Alone in the Kitchen with an Eggplant by Jenni Ferrari-Adler
The Sweet Life In Paris by David Lebovitz
Tender At The Bone by Ruth Reichl

Have you read any of these? Any can't miss books about food?

  1. Great list!
I've enjoyed pretty much every Ruth Reichl book I've read, and Tender at the Bone was a great one.
The Bullock-Prado book was a fun read. But I have to admit that while The Fortune Cookie Chronicles started out well, there were some chapters that were more like an eh for me.

  2. Great list indeed! I have a couple of books that now live on my recipe book cupboard and they are: "Lunch in Paris: A Love Story with Recipes" by Elizabeth Bard and "The Homemade Life" by Molly Wizenberg (who also has a great podcast called Spilled Milk).

In my TBR list include "The School of Essential Ingredients" by Erica Bauermeister, "My Life From Scratch" by Gesine Bullock-Prado, and "The Sweet Life in Paris" by David Lebovitz.

As a diversion from the memoir-type books, you could read anything by Diane Mott Davidson - the caterer who solves crimes. The books are also filled with recipes!

I guess I love books about food!

  4. I've never read a strictly foodie book (unless I can count Eating Animals by Jonathan Safran Foer, I love that book).

  5. Welcome to the Foodies Read 2 Challenge. Your list is fantastic. I've only read a few on your list so I'm looking forward to hearing (and possibly reading) the others. I'm so glad you joined in.
