My Favorite...Book Movie Adaption

My favorite book movie adaptation is Sense and Sensibility. I could watch it weekly.
Not only does it have Hugh Grant with his floppy hair.
But it has Alan Rickman (RIP) and he's so handsome and romantic.
Swoon! Time to watch it again!

Library Loot

Library Loot is a weekly event co-hosted by Claire from The Captive Reader and me that encourages bloggers to share the books they’ve checked out from the library. If you’d like to participate, just write up your post-feel free to steal the button-and link it using the Mr. Linky any time during the week. And of course check out what other participants are getting from their libraries.

I've been looking forward to this one for a while.

A coworker of mine has been raving about this one.

The Names They Gave Us by Emery Lord

I've enjoyed all the other Emery Lord books I've read and this one was no different. If I wasn't an Emery Lord fan girl before, I am now. The Names They Gave Us is one of the best I've read this year.

Lucy Hansson is 17. She's the captain of her swim team, has a good boyfriend, and is close to her parents but then her mother's cancer returns. Lucy, who's had a strong faith in God, starts to question her faith and starts to feel like she's falling away from God. It's summer vacation and Lucy's mom insists that Lucy attend a secular camp rather than the Christian camp that Lucy's parents run. Lucy doesn't want to at first. But after she goes she realizes that there is a lot of different ways to have faith.

I really liked Lucy. Sheltered at first but curious about the outside world. She sees other girls and how close they are. Lucy has friends but nothing like a best friend. I liked all the issues raised in this book although it felt like a lot. But that's life, you can get bombarded by information. You adjust and move on. The end of The Names They Gave Us threw out a lot of information and revelations. That part of the story felt rushed but I enjoyed the book so much that I won't complain more. I would love to hear more about Lucy in the future. She was a great character.

I couldn't stop thinking about Lucy and her struggles.  I highly recommend The Names They Gave Us. Others who shared their thoughts on The Names They Gave Us: The Teen Librarian Toolbox, Pretty Deadly Reviews, and The Girl In The Pages.

My Favorite...Way To Spend a Weekend

My favorite way to spend a weekend. I love spending time at home. I used to never like to be home but now I love it. Hanging out on the couch with Tai and our pooch. Listening to music, watching tv, reading a book. A good weekend has time for it all. Maybe run out for a bite to eat. The perfect weekend has no plans but lots of possibilities and plenty of time to relax.

I was looking for books set in Central America and this one fit the bill.

I heard good things about this one.

More poetry. Hopefully I like this one more.

May Goals Update

Prepare to do something physically challenging in 2018. Trying to keep my walking up. Since we mowed the back yard and put up an aerial dog run, Houdini's walks are shorter.

Be able to park my car in the garage by December 31, 2017. Kind of stalled on this one. Spent too many weekends out of the house so I had limited time to work on the garage.

Add yoga back into my life at least once a week. I didn't get an yoga in this month at all :(

One hour a day without technology (no phone, no computer, no tv). Still doing good on this one.

Add more art into my life. Nothing formal but keeping an eye out for art everyday.

Get back to meal planning. Going well. I love Plated and making new meals each week is fun.

New monthly goal: Bike 60 miles this month. Ha! I biked 5.5 miles.

June monthly goal: Make something on my loom (either a hat or a scarf).

Weekend Cooking: The Comic Book Story of Beer by Jonathan Hennessey & Mike Smith

I picked up The Comic Book Story of Beer because I like comic books and I like beer. While whiskey is alcoholic beverage of choice, I appreciate a good beer. I love trying new brews. But I know very little about beer.

I really enjoyed The Comic Book Story of Beer. It starts with the beginning-the first fermented drinks. The story takes the reader through the entire history of how beer went from a seasonal beverage to a huge national product. I loved the single page panels that explained one type of beer like porter, India Pale Ale, lagers, and Belgian wits. This book definitely made me want to go out and try more beer.

This was my third read for the Foodies Read Challenge.

Weekend Cooking is hosted by Beth  Fish Reads and is open to anyone who has any kind of food-related post to share: Book reviews (novel, nonfiction), cookbook reviews, movie reviews, recipes, random thoughts, gadgets, quotations, photographs, restaurant reviews, travel information, or fun food facts. If your post is even vaguely foodie, feel free to grab the button and link up anytime over the weekend. You do not have to post on the weekend. Please link to your specific post, not your blog's home page.
