The Fives

I spotted this one Here There Be Books blog and thought it would be fun.

5 books I’ve recently add to my tbr pile
1. Looking for Me by Beth Hoffman-I still haven't read Saving Cece Honeycutt but I keep hearing so many good things about Beth Hoffman. I just need to start read her books.
2. Awakened by Melissa Marr- I like Marr's books and I try to read whatever she publishes.
3. Blood and Beauty by Sarah Dunant- Dunant's another author I've heard good things about and haven't gotten around to either.
4. Rebel Belle by Rachel Hawkins- A supernatural Southern Belle? This one sounds fantastic.
5. Wonder by RJ Palacio- Allyson Pearl gave me a few YA recommendations on Twitter recently and Wonder was one of them.

5 books I’m planning to read (in the near future)
1. Knights of Hill Country by Tim Tharp- I have high expectations after The Spectacular Now.
2. Where Did You Go, Bernadette by Marie Semple- I'm determined not to take this one back unread to the library.
3. Two Boys Kissing by David Levithan- Another one with high expectations.
4. The Rathbones by Janice Clark- I should be reading this right now. I do not want to take it back to the library unread too.
5. Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter-I need to see if it's worth the hype.

5 books I own but still haven't read
1. The Host by Stephanie Meyer- I said I would read The Host before the movie came out. Oops.
2. Into The Wild by Jon Krakauer- I need to be in the right frame of mind to read Into The Wild.
3. Ruined by Paula Morris-A friend gave me Ruined last Christmas. But it sounds like the perfect fall book.
4. The Sugar Queen by Sarah Addison Allen-I read The Peach Keeper last year and really enjoyed it.

5. Enclave by Ann Aguirre- My friend also gave me Enclave. I really need to read it.

5 books from series that I need to continue
1. Girls in Pants by Ann Brashares (Sisterhood #3) - I waited too long between books one and two. I forgot who a lot of the characters were. I'm determined to finish this series this year.
2. Rumors by Anna Godbersen (Luxe #2)- I'm not sure what's taking me so long to read the next book in the Luxe series. I've gotten it from the library but returned it unread. Too many books.
3. Linger by Maggie Stiefvater (The Wolves of Mercy Falls #2)- I liked Shiver but haven't rushed out to get Linger. Probably the only books by Stiefvater I haven't devoured.
4. Valiant by Holly Black (Modern Faerie Tales #2) by Holly Black. Again, I liked Tithe but haven't even tried to get Valiant from the library. I know a lot of people enjoyed the series.
5. Allegiant by Veronica Roth (Divergent #3)- I guess this one is a gimme since it's not out yet.

5 soon to be released books that I’m looking forward to reading
1. Isla And The Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins (Anna and The French Kiss #3)- I have enjoyed each of Perkins' books so I'm excited for the next one.
2. The One by Keira Cass (The Selection #3)-Another series that's going to wrap up. I can't wait to see how it ends.
3. What I Thought Was True by Huntley Fitzpatrick- After being blown away by My Life Next Door, I'm anxious for Fitzpatrick's next book.
4. Landline by Rainbow Rowell- I love Rowell's writing so Landline is high on my 2014 tbr list already.
5. Shattered by Kevin Hearne (The Iron Druid Chronicles #7)- I've really been enjoying Hearne's series and looking forward to continuing it.

It’s your turn! Which five books are YOU most looking forward to reading soon?

BBAW 2012: Appreciation

I'm celebrating Book Blogger Appreciation Week. Today's topic is about sharing about five blogs I want to highlight today.

Staci of Life In The Thumb: When people say you should be authentic, take your queues from Staci. I can always count on Staci to be honest in her reviews. If she doesn't care for a book, she gives her honest opinion. I love her sense of humor and style.

Linda of The Book Girl of Mur-y- Castell: Besides having a fabulous name, Linda is also my go to resource for urban fantasy and romance. She reads a crazy amount of books so she's always read something I haven't read yet.

Kristilyn of Reading In Winter-I've recently started reading Kristilyn's blog and found her funny and relatable  Plus her recent Zombie week added a pile of my books to my tbr list.

Lydia of The Lost Entwife-Lydia reads a lot like me, some YA, some adult fiction and anything else that looks good. She's also hosting the Western Genre Challenge which I'm terribly behind on!

Christine from The Happily Ever After...- I love seeing Christine's latest CSA boxes. She's shares terrific recipes. And she loves to read. What more could I want?

Currently....

Loving....
I signed up for mint last month. I wasn't sure if I was going to really use it but I freaking love it. I really feel like I'm managing our money so much better now. I even use the app for my phone too.

Drinking...
I picked up this yummy drink on a lark. Tai and I drank the whole bottle in one weekend so I went out and bought 10 more bottles. So delicious.

Eating...

I heard about TJ's pumpkin ice cream and picked up a pint. Oh so good. It's like pumpkin pie without the crust.

BBAW 2011-Tools To Help Me Blog

The world of blogging is continually changing. Share 3 things you are essential tried and true practices for every blogger and 1-3 new trends or tools you’ve adapted recently or would like to in the future.
This prompt confuses me. I'm not really sure what I'm supposed to talk about so I'll talk about my behind the scenes process.

When I'm looking for inspiration, I often turn to my Google Reader. I love Google Reader.
I use Google Reader to read all my blogs.
Do you not use Google Reader? I'm not too familiar with other feed readers. But Google Reader is easy for me to use. I'm a huge fan of Google products. It's free. Adding subscriptions is very easy. Click on the add subscription button at the top write and add the url and there you go. I check Google Reader twice a day. If there is a post I want to refer back to I click on the star next to the title of the post (see the yellow star next to 40 things (13)?). Then it gets saved in my Starred Items til I remove the star.
If you are looking for a feed reader I cannot recommend Google Reader enough.
I also use Google Documents to keep my tbr pile and my spreadsheet of books read. I love that I can access all that information anywhere.
I confess. I preplan my posts. On Sundays I try to write all the posts for the week. Sometimes I can't and I might only post 2-3 days worth of posts.
I also love Goodreads for keeping track of my books and books I want to read. Are you on Goodreads? Friend me there!
I'm pushing myself to comment more and be more active on Twitter. I don't always know what say. Find me on Twitter at @sillylittelinda.
What about you? Any tips to share?

Changed Things Again

I've been bored with my old blog theme. I've been looking around for one I liked more but was having a tough time. Today while reading Serving Thirty-nine to Wife, I noticed her background and scrolled to the bottom to see who she got it from. I was surprised to see it was a Blogger template. I checked out their selection and found something I liked. I'm digging the purple (my favorite color). What do you think?

Managing The Series

Do you ever forget where you are in a series? Have to go to Goodreads, a Wiki or Amazon to see what book is next? When I saw FictFact on Whimpulsive, I was pretty excited. I can't always remember what series I've started and what book is next, but FictFact makes it easy to see where you are in each series.
Of the 18 series, I've got eleven series that I'm behind on. Sometimes I miss when a new book is being released but this will tell me when it's being released.
Are you using FictFact?

BBAW-Future Treasures

We’ve been visiting each other and getting to know each other better…now is your chance to share what you enjoyed about BBAW and also what your blogging goals are for the next year!

Book Blogger Appreciation Week is a wonderful opportunity to connect with other bloggers. That's my favorite thing. Blogging sometimes can sometimes be a solitary venture-one person talking about books. I'm not fond of talking in a vacuum. That's why I join BBAW, readathons, and read alongs. To participate with others and share.
My goals for the upcoming year are to continue to share about what I read and  to participate in the blogging community. I love being here and I'm honored that you spend a few minutes of your day with me. Here's to another fantastic year!

BBAW-Unexpected Treasure

We invite you to share with us a book or genre you tried due to the influence of another blogger.  What made you cave in to try something new and what was the experience like?

If you've been reading my blog for awhile, then you know I blame Staci for a lot of the books I read and put on my tbr pile. I can't help it. She reads so many fantastic books! Earlier this year she reviewed Almost Perfect, a teen romance featuring a transgendered girl. Her review was so moving that I immediately requested Almost Perfect from the library. Staci didn't lead me astray. Almost Perfect is one of my favorites of the year despite that I don't read a lot of LGBTQ books. I give it my highest recommendation. I And I have Staci to thank for sharing it!
Click here if you want to read my thoughts on Almost Perfect.

BBAW-Interview with Danielle of There's A Book

One of my favorite things about BBAW is the chance to meet new-to-me bloggers. And this year's interview swap is no different. I had the honor of interviewing Danielle of There's A Book.  She interviewed me so check out my responses on her blog!

Tell us a little a bit about yourself.
Well, I'm a stay at home mom of two wonderful little kiddos I call the Turkeybird and Littlebug. I'm also married to a fabulous husband (recently practicing attorney, yay!) who tolerates every bit of my book obsession with grace, except for when he's fighting over a book with me. Besides that, I love to read (obviously), write, play the flute and am very active in my church. I started my blog almost a year ago with the intention of sharing books for children of all ages in an effort to help parents find books that match their own children's tastes. It's been a labor of love and I can't wait for many more years of blogging.

I have a hard time posting on one blog so I'm in awe that you contribute to 2 blogs (There's A Book and Chick Lit Reviews) Is it hard posting on 2 blogs?Yes, and no. I have wonderful co-bloggers (Leah & Chloe) at Chick Lit Reviews who do the majority of the posting. My features generally run on Saturday's and talk about "American" Chick Lit. It's been great because I have an outlet to discuss something outside the realm of children's literature at least once a week. What is becoming increasingly difficult about it is the time to read, but honestly I think we all have that problem in some form! Too many books, too little time!

A lot of book bloggers have a book that turned them into book bloggers. A book they wanted to share & talk about with others. What helped start you blogging?
My reasons for starting my site had more to do with my children than anything actually. When my son was born he loved to read and it was hard to keep up with all the books. It was also extremely difficult to find the "right" books. I would visit bookstores and the library and be baffled at what to choose because he was very particular. Now, with his sister it's also quite difficult as she has very different taste in books than her brother. So, I knew I couldn't be alone in my dilemma and decided I wanted to help. Thus, started me on my book blogging journey.

What do you find to be the best part of book blogging?
By far, the association with other book bloggers! Second to that would be the association with authors. Both of these were completely unexpected, but I've met some of the best people while book blogging and I can't wait to meet more.

What’s the hardest part of book blogging?
For me, time. Obviously my plate is a little full with two little ones, but I make time by staying up late and squeezing things in during naps. I make it work because I love it.

What types of books do you avoid if any?
I'm definitely not a fan of Erotica type books as that's just not the type of book I read. The other would be self-published books, they generally don't work so well in the Children's book market.

What book do you love that other people seem to dislike?
This is a tough question! Umm...probably the Twilight series. Recently there has been a lot of speaking out against the series, but in all honesty I love it. I have every book signed and reread them on occasion. I feel like no matter whether you like the writing or books, Meyer started something in the book world that can't be denied and I'm very happy she did.

What book did you dislike that others love?
Pretty much any Classic novel. I'm just not a huge fan unfortunately. My least favorite would be Wuthering Heights. I couldn't get past the first couple of chapters, it was too negative and confusing for me.

Advice for newer book bloggers?
Do it because you love it, not because you want books. Books will come, but the love will wain once the stacks become overwhelming. It's important to remember why you got into blogging. Because books rock and the community does as well!

Thank you Danielle for answering all my questions. Check out Danielle at There's A Book and Chick Lit Reviews and on twitter @The1stdaughter.

BBAW-First Treasure

We invite you to share with us about a great new book blog you’ve discovered since BBAW last year!  If you are new to BBAW or book blogging, share with us the very first book blog you discovered.  Tell us why this blog rocks your socks off and why you keep going back for more.

Nymeth isn't a new blogger. I see her everywhere. I can't tell you why I waited so long to join the following. I enjoyed participating in  her Middlemarch readalong. She made reading such a huge a little more fun. I love her reviews. I sad she's going to be blogging less but totally understand why. Grad school will keep a person busy.
Do you read things mean a lot?

3

Happy blog anniversary to me! Three years ago I started this little blog. I started the blog when I was planning our wedding. Since then I've started blogging about books, food, travel, and life in a suburb of Seattle.
This week I'm going to recap some of my old favorite posts. But I thought I'd do a little recap in case you haven't been here for the whole story.
This is me and Tai. We met in 2006 on match.com. Yes I met my husband on the internet. I "winked" at him, we started emailing and met about a week later. I was smitten from the beginning.
Tai asked me to marry him on Memorial Day 2007 and we got married at Tolt MacDonald Campground in Carnation on July 19, 2008. Since then we've had our share of ups and downs, but we're still going strong. Our most recent happy news is that Tai now has a permanent job (He'd been a contract employee for a year). Yea!
I enjoy reading, Zumba, watching movies, and cooking. I cook less now that our workout schedule has increased and we drink protein shakes after our workouts. We love spending time at home watching tv shows and movies as well as being with our friends. Tai is an avid gamer (both tabletop games and video games) and a voracious reader. Tai plays volleyball and does Krav Maga.
Thank you all for being out there in Internetland and joining me in this adventure. I wouldn't do this without all of you :)

Library Loot

Library Loot is a weekly event co-hosted by Eva and Marg that encourages bloggers to share the books they’ve checked out from the library. If you’d like to participate, just write up your post-feel free to steal the button-and link it using the Mr. Linky any time during the week. And of course check out what other participants are getting from their libraries.

Alright let's back to it. We're pretty much settled, still have some boxes laying around. Our cable got hooked up today so we're very happy.
First we have Lost Girls by Alan Moore. It was one of those that caught my eye. And then 3 Astro City Books (Astrocity: The Dark Age, Life In The Big City, Confessions) which were recommended by a friend. We were talking graphic novels and he mentioned the Astrocity series which neither Tai or I have ever read.
I finished From Hell and posted my review on the Fill In The Gaps. Look for a review of Strange Brew, an anthology of urban fantasy, later this week.
And if you are reading this on a feed reader, pop on over and take a look at my new layout. Let me know what you think.
What did you get this week?

Frustrating

Ok things look a little different here. I was having problems with the old template which was making it hard to see anything! So I took it down and will get something new once I have internet at home. Sorry if you visited before and couldn't read anything. Please pardon the inconvience and things will look different next month.

I Wonder Little Random Thoughts

*If I eat 5 100 calorie packs of craisins in one day is that bad?

*I don't know what to do with my headphones? I need them on the bus and at the gym but there's no convenient way to carry them. Any ideas?

*Has anyone gone to Dream Dinners or Dinner's Ready type place? Yea? Nay? Somewhere in between?

*Why does my hubby give me that look, the look that say no way, Jose, when he's just kidding? How will I know when he is serious?

*Why can't my friends get along and not leave one ostracized person? I miss her and struggle to see her since she's not invited to group activities?

*Why doesn't Pandora have an all 80's station or an all 90's station?

Have a great weekend!
